Is this a concerted attempt by Amazon to enter the UK convenience Market? Is it an opportunity to gain a better understanding of UK consumers in food & beverage purchases? or even if it is a way to demonstrate and refine the technology to allow Amazon to sell this as a service to other retailers? There is also the possibility it is a mix of all three, only time will tell. The opening of the Amazon Fresh store in West London could result in dramatic changes to the UK convenience market over the next few years. Amazon Fresh is a grocery delivery service available to Amazon Prime and Amazon Prime Student members in select cities. That was until Amazon Fresh revolutionized the shopping experience with its Just Walk Out Shopping tech, which allows consumers to skip the checkout line. With the UK retail food & beverage market now at more than £200 billion and predicted to grow by 2.8% by 2022, and with the UK convenience market expected to see growth above the total market at 5.4% by 2022, Amazon, the worlds largest online retailer, having launched the physical concept stores of Amazon Go, Amazon Go Grocery and Amazon Fresh across the US has now launched its first physical store outside the states in the UK.
